Painting Alternator
How do I go about painting the alternator without making a pretty paperweight? Its coming off tomorrow, so Id like to clean it up a bit. Any suggestions?

I took mine a part. It was easier than trying to mask off and keep the paint out of the internals. Reassembly is not quite the task you might think. If you pull it a a part, you will need a piece of wire to hold the brushes in place to reassemble. I used a 4" piece #12 ground wire.

I tried to add some pictures of mine. Not sure if they'll come in right, if not, I could email them to you if you're interested.

This should be the picture of the alternator guts. I'm not trying to scare you, I'm just not very organized.

Does the pack of Marlboro somehow help with voltage regulation? And the tape measure....does it have to be 3p ft?

I understand you not wanting the risk of ruining a working alternator, maybe you might try something like a brush-on caliper paint instead of rattle can. Good luck with your project!

I've been thinking of painting mine too, because it looks corroded and ugly. These videos taught me a lot. They don't explain how to take off the pulley, fan, and rotor, but I think it simply comes apart when the nut on the pulley is taken off.
