    Default oil pump and pick up info

    got my oil pump shaft today ...got some questions
    1 didn't the sleeve use to be made as one part? ( this one spins freely )
    2 what oil pump should i use with a stock bottom end (stock gm every thing)
    2 oil pump pick up ....i want a bolt on pick up ...im using a stock pan!

    What do you mean it spins freely?

    Use a stock pickup tube and have it tack welded to the pump. Won't ever have to worry about it again. Buy a melling 10554 pump. It's Stock volume and pressure but a better design over the base model pump they offer.

    The problem with "weld on" is that you are welding steel to cast on an oil saturated surface.
    TIG it after cleaning the shit out of the cast base of the pump with a Nickle based filler.
    At least that's what I would do.

    I run a stock pump with a white spring.
    The Melling isn't a bad idea.

    If you aren't keen on welding, there are a few pickup tube retainers around to choose from. Something like the Pioneer 839061 or Jegs 23621. EDIT: I also have the Melling Select 10554 with white spring (GM PN 3848911). THere's also the more readily available Mr Gasket Spring 26 but I'm not certain how comparable it is to the GM one.

    ok i was looking to run the m55 pump ? um i seen a post with some one say there not recommend to run with solid motor mounts ???

    i had bad luck with to pumps with welded on pick ups both ruining the motors this is why i want to do a bolt on pick up with safety wire and weld it on or tig ....(i have the tools to do safety wire )
