    Default running lean

is it normal for lt1 that the spark plugs are really white? I have no color on them what so ever. Also my headers glow red for few minutes after start up, i have New Speedway 1965-1989 SBC Chevy Fullsize Car Long Tube Headers, Stainless Steel. i have 466-8 cam and custom tuning for it but i think its not tuned enough. also have cold air kit and power filter.

Ok... will wait for pics. Tell us about the tune. Who did it... how was it done... mail order... street driving... dyno?

Im not familiar with the cam so that advice will have to be from someone else.

it was mail order from lt1 pcm tuning. We are gonna continue the tuning as soon as i have the data cable. Im pretty sure its because of the cam and cold air system that its so lean. Plugs are almost as clear as i got them out of the box. i stopped the engine after i see the glowing on the headers. That could also be normal, i read somewhere that thin stainless headers can do that. And this question also came into my mind: does the 02 sensor work right away or do they take time to start operating properly? I have heated 02 because of the long tubes and that might also do something. Also gonna go to garage next weekend and make sure i have no exhaust leaks anywere.

O2s are always working... but the car/computer does not make adjustments based on their "findings" till it goes into closed loop.

What year is ur set up... i do a tuning computer/software loaner program... ull see it stickied in the tuning section.

my setup is 1993 speed density. So it could be that the lean condition goes away when it gets to closed loop. Ill have to get the cable to get logs on it to know better. I mailed the tuner the info and know waiting to get the cable and then send logs to the tuner. I think my own cable works, i just didnt know how the program worked. Going on to the garage tomorrow for more testing.

It sounds like its running as it should. Its running slightly rich on startup. Then it leans out. Cars are supposed to run rich at startup that's why the headers glow. Then it leans out.

Solomon at lt1tuning is a good tuner. Stop guessing what's going on with the car and install a wideband.
