    If you'd prefer to have the steam pipe come back on the return side, this is the other option:

    another option would be to pull the temp sensors out and put a fitting there. then run one of the dual purpose temp sensor in the head.

    Thanks for the ideas and pics!!!

    since I'm removing all my heater stuff, do the fittings in the water pump pull out and then tap them for a plug??? Is that what I'm seeing??

    You got it. Some people use freeze plugs but I wanted to have the option of reinstalling fittings later if need be. Just needed 1/2" & 3/8" NPT taps and plugs/fittings.

    OP... thanks for the thread. I recently bought a Griffin Rad. and had not realized that I had this to look forward to.

    How cool is it that I get to take that dam' water pump off AGAIN! ??

    It can. In fact, the person who took those pictures I posted did it all with the water pump mounted. They just stuffed a rag in there. Should be fine as long as you are mindful of the shavings.

    Thanks for for the ideas..... I ended up doing what McCauleyWB did.

    Now the bad news.... filled the block with water and now passenger side intake manifold is leaking!!!! Cars been sitting on jackstands for 2 years so I'm thinking gasket dried up??.... thought I was gonna get this car on the road this weekend but doesn't look that way.... I take needs to come off..... one step forward and two steps back....

    The intake manifold is leaking water? Because the intake manifold doesn't have any water going thru it on a lt1. ....
