Lil late to party, but you grommet the non moving piece so the moving piece rubs against a non sharp edge. Grommeting the move part just buys you time before it cuts through.
Also, to continue being negative, you really should rethink a hose full of steam/water above your front tire.Correlation does not imply causation.

Well I got a Hurst Pro Matic 2 shifter for the car and it's going to be modified. I'm going to put the Piston rod from cylinder number 4 on it to be the shifter arm. Cylinder number 4 was the one that had a ring land got damaged. It's a little bit heavy so I'm going to drill several holes in it to lighten it up as much as I can.

This weekend I did alot with the car ... I got the trans cooler mounted and soft lines ran back to the trans. Fixed the leak I had with the brake lines. Bled the brake lines.
So I'm getting pretty close now I need to get a shifter cable. Change fluids and filters for motor and transmission. Then I should be able to move the car around on its own power.

Well today I'm changing the transmission filter and fluid which I've never done before in my life on any vehicle but once this is put back together and filled up the car should be able to drive out of the garage under its own power.
I have no idea what I'm looking at on the inside of a transmission but this is what the th400 looks like inside
Just as a reminder this is not the race transmission this is a temporary one to get it up and going
