The time to take my car off the road may be soon at hand. I pulled the OTVC kit today, and was immediately assaulted by the overwhelming stench of burnt oil. I have to go back to NC for a couple of days, but once I get back, I plan on pulling the valve covers so I can see exactly what kind of mess I may be looking at.

yeah, it looks like I would have been tearing into the car anyways. tonight I discovered 2 missing header bolts and 2 more that it's a miracle they were still in the car. The rest are basically finger tight. I'm sorely tempted to begin the tear down and rebuild process now so that I can basically unfuck the rest of the car. Plus it'll give me an excuse to finish building and drop in my new motor. Funds are a little tight right now, so selling some stuff that's going to be extra anyways might help get it off the ground. But It's all going to depend on what the underside of the valve cover looks like when I pull them.

The engine was coming out eventually anyways, plus the headers need to be replaced (Dynotech junkers that came with the car) and my new rear axle is complete minus a torque arm bracket. I have to reconstruct the right rear lower control arm pocket and weld in the subframe connectors.

At this point as far as the motor is concerned, really, all I'm missing to put together a running motor is a timing set, oil pump, and head gaskets/bolts and a set of LSx rockers with Comp's trunion upgrade, so maybe a few hundred more in parts to have a brand new bargain basement boosted motor lol. I need to get the heads machined and set up for LSX valves, then get everything set up and ready to rock. Oh, and an electric water pump since I want to go double roller for this build. So in all actuallity, I'm just a few parts and a couple of highly motivated weekends away from having the new motor together and in the car. And I'm just a torque arm bracket away from having an 8.8 rear end in my car as well, which I have less than 1600 in, including the fab work. If I had money and a little more time, I could even have the beast running by the shootout, but the money or the time aint going to happen, got a couple other projects on the bench right now that take priority (by priority I mean I could make some serious monies if they work out the way I think they will), but I should have it at least mechanically ready for next years shoot out.

Alright, I've merged this thread with my other build thread into one mega-soon-to-be out of control build thread

I will not be replying to this thread or my axle build thread, so please refer all questions to the thread below or PM me. Thank you.
