    If you're using hydraulic lifters, the valve spring is compressing the plunger inside the lifter.

    You need to use solid lifters or a light "test spring" and primed lifters.

    I ran 91 octane fuel in my 12.1:1 compression 383 LT1 for years, never had a problem. Ran a 100 shot at the track. That motor had 215 psi cranking pressure :D
    LT1's can handle a decent compression...
