View Full Version : How to get rid of this cancer under the hood (battery acid)...

My battery (probably the original factory Delco one) in my Firebird broke a week or so ago. When I say broke, I really mean broke, as in the terminal had actually cracked and battery acid had started corroding the terminals in the car. I got out a wire wheel attachment for my drill, cleaned it up, and replaced the battery. Apparently I didn't get all of it though, as now the green caner like substance of battery acid residue is starting to re-corrode the terminal (I also had to scrape some of it off the new battery connection).

I tried wiping it down this last time with some rubbing alcohol, but don't really know if this will stop it.

Anyone got any good tips for getting rid of this stuff for good? Hopefully it can be taken care of without replacing absolutely everything the acid has touched.

battery acid neutralizer, it'll stop the stuff as far as it's gone, then you can clean it up

X's 2, we have it in small bottles at the shop, and we just pour it on , spread it around with a supplied brush, then after sitting the minute or so that its supposed to, we have a flower water'er thingy that we just pour regular water over it to rinse it...

I did some looking yesterday with no luck. I'm going to try to use some coke and see if that clears it up.

Popo, I might end up taking you up on the offer if the coke doesn't work.

This is your best bet. If you would have mixed this in a cup and dipped the cable in it the cable would come out almost looking like new.

Well, I gave the coke a chance. I'll need to wait a little while to see if it takes care of the residual acid. If it doesn't, I'll give the baking soda and water a try.

How much baking soda vs how much water? Do you just want a paste? Or do you want it more of a liquid consistancy to put on the affected parts?
