Can I replace the bulbs with some LEDS or something so that I can actually see with them since the stock bulbs suck?

I did a sealed beam conversion with silverstars and they weren't horrible. Then I went with 5k HIDs. Much better!!

I did the same thing..... took the factory headlights out, and using a smalll cutting wheel and cut out the stock elements... then with the help of PEP BOYS, I picked up HIGH and LOW beam replacements from silver star, with the same connectors, and siliconed them in..... NIGHT/DAY dif on my car.....

take your time, chose your weapon and go for it... it aint that bad. I know the HID's are much brighter... but alot more than I wanted to spend on headlights.... the silverstars and a little reaiming was PERFECT for me....

Is the whole light one big piece? Like I said, I have a headlight out any ways so when I go get a new one are they gonna give me a bulb or the whole rectangle housing?

If you go and get a replacement headlight you are going to get a sealed beam.....(ONE BIGPIECE) if you want to do the silverstar upgrade, take your housings and cut out the element from the back side.... keep the plugs and go to the parts stoor and find the identical plugs on the silverstar rack (BULBS ONLY) then go silicone/RTV them in.... Allow a while to completly set up b4 reinstalling....

pull a headlight on your car..... the part you plug into that is on the outside, is attatched to the element/filiment on the inside....
Highbeams will be diffrent then lowbeams....

How did you put the HID's into the stock housings? Did you do it the same way you put the Silverstars in?
To the OP, here is a write up on how to do what everyone is talking about:
