This poll mainly pertains to stock CI cars, but strokers and big CI setups can chime in too.

The answers in the poll are assuming that you are tuned. I had the car tuned a few weeks back. WOT is spot on. It still needs some work at part throttle and general drivability. I need to set up a date with the tuner to tweak it a little.

I have talked to a few local H/C lt1s and the ones that have little to no cam surge are tuned with the o2s disconnected. I was planning on keeping them (thay are BRAND NEW AC's!), but I'm really frustrated with the surge at part throttle and cruising speeds. I dissconnected the o2s yesterday and it is MUCH better. It still has a little surge but I can deal with it. If my tuner can get it to drive like this with them hooked up, I'll be happy. The night that it was tuned, he told me that it's pretty much "the nature of the beast". He also told me that unhooking the o2s is an option, but a lot of people rather keep them. I was pretty dead set on keeping them as I just put brand new ones in that day, just to make sure everything was in tip top shape.

Now I'm at the point of doing whatever it takes to get the drivability spot on (or atleast as good as it is going to get).

BTW, it has an AI 200CC H/C package on a stock shortblock w/ a 230/236 .565/.570 108lsa.
I know that the tight lobe seperation really does not help matters.

Please list your set ups (specifically cam specs) and if you are a manual or auto!
I am not positive, but I'm guessing the the stalled auto cars do not surge as bad (or atleast it is not going to be noticed as much).

My setup with the cc306 had surge under 3000rpms at partial throttle, but I also had 2.73s with the 6speed so it was a bit worse...

The surge was mainly felt in 1st-3rd.. 4th-6th I don't feel it

Mine used to have mild surge but its now getting alot worse for some reason lately, u know how it used to be u drove it, and u know its not tuned. Under 3k like just like ryan said surge only in 1st-3rd gear. Its really bad now though now for some reason. and i have no cam surge at all with my o2s disconnected.

i really wanna go for a ride in that car and see how fast it is since i cant really race now... and the cobra too.

Got a 230/236 cam and it surges alittle at about 1500 -2200 other than that she is fine , i cruise around at about 1800-2000 all the time :claps: i still have my nitrous plugs in it and it seems to run a little worse with these plugs im switching back to my NA plugs tomorrow , i have a 6spd and 3.42s and i dont mind the mild cam surge at all

get a gear in the 4's and it wont surge nearly as bad trey...

and my buddy had that same setup on his car... but with a Vig 3600 stall and id didnt surge at all. period. now another friend has a 396 and it surges like hell, 3.42's and Ram clutch anything under 2k and it jumps all over the place when just druising through a parking lot. it annoys me really bad

My maing ripe about "surge" is at cruising speeds. If I'm in 4th or 5th at 45-50 mph, the car has a constant bucking. With the 02 disconnected it only has a mild surg that almost feels like a slight miss (but its not, give it a little bit of gas and it clears right up).

As for the gears, it still has 3.42s, but I will be putting a rear in it with a set of 4.30's :)

Mine had surge for about 30 miles then completely went away and drove great. Now the motor is coming out :(!

went for a boring cruise down 41 last night and mine i doing exactly what u posted "If I'm in 4th or 5th at 45-50 mph, the car has a constant bucking" it used to never do in in 4th or 5th.

6spdZ and 95ztrey, What lobe seperation do your cams have?

I think that my 108lsa may be making it worse then most that run a 110-112.

Mine's only bad when I'm cruising around 800-1700 in anygear.. I've got a 236/242 @ 555/576 lift and a 112 LSA though so it's a pretty big cam for stock gears. I'd have your tuner look at it though. It bucked like hell at anything before 2350 before I got it tuned.

I am sure my stall converter is masking a bit of surge.

I'm a little late commin into this thread but my LE cam (232/240, .584/.584, 108 LSA) idles and drives great. No surge or "bucking" at any rpm or any gear, actually it feels like a stock cam without some of the vaccum at idle! The 280XFI (230/236, .576/.570, 113 LSA) I had before in the same combo idled fine but I couldn't keep the car at one speed. I had to either be slightly accelerating or decelerating to keep it form "bucking" and surging. This happened in any gear and I figured it was just a part of life that came with having a cam in an M6 car. PCM4less tune on both cams.
