To the best of my knowledge (oh god, help me!)

92-96 were LT1's with the exception of some 96's had the LT4 (grand sports).

Not sure on the power, but Im sure a google search could get you that.

same.... 300 for LT1 and 330 for LT4. 310 for 96+ LT1 and I believe LT4 was available as an option for Grand Sport as well as ZR1 corvettes.

Weve been through this lol, ZR1's never had the LT4. ZR1 production stopped in 1995, LT4 didn't debut till 96.

LT1 was 92-96, 96 was automatic only, rated at 300HP

LT4 was 96 only, manual only, and underrated at 330HP

ALL Grand Sports were LT4's, and it was an RPO for all other vettes in 1996 only. 5300 Non Grand Sport vettes had this option in 1996.

Wasn't there an 'LT5' (modded LT4) on the ZR1s? And weren't the LT4s knocked down in power cuz the new vettes weren't rated at a high enough horsepower and it would have looked bad?

The LT5 was no where near a modded LT4, the LT5 is an all aluminum 4 overhead cam, 32 valve monster that revs to 8500 in stock trim. It was designed by Lotus and built by Mercruiser to be put in the ZR1.

The ZR1 was also a completely different body as a base vette, being 3" wider in the rear. The ZR1 option package DOUBLED the cost of a Corvette.

The LT4 was very underrated, and de-tuned from the factory.

LT4's almost always lay down 300WHP bone stock.

LT4's were also supposed to leave the factory with a 52mm TB, and the Hotcam was intended to be the stock LT4 cam.

When looking at LT4 heads you can also see where material was added to the runners to further choke them down.

The reason, GM designers wanted the LT4 to have 400HP from the factory.

GM marketing didn't want them out-doing the LS1 when it debuted the next year. So, it was choked down. :frustrated:

Wasnt there also a LT5 engine put in the Z-R1s. All aluminum DOHC, 32 valve motor. I think it has about 400 hp.

Your post makes sense though, GM loves making the 'Vette be the top dog.

Interesting, i did not no that. So your saying if you bought a LT4 kit, got the heads ported and polished, hot cam, and a throttle body you would make those numbers. Thanks for the info. though.

Yep! + Custom cam and a 383 and supporting mods you can run 9s NA. Look At Ed Wrights Car for example. Also claims its street legal.
LT4 top end has alot of potential.
LT5 is totally different engine.

That boat anchor is worth about as much as your car. Not saying you couldn't make as much power out of a LT1 and $2,000, but still.

the LT5 did NOT spin to 8500 in stock form. redline was 7800

didnt know about the added material to the LT4 heads... i do know that the production ones flow just as much as LS1 heads at roughly 240cfm at .500" lift

my LT4 with only a hotcam, free mods, and a tune made 344rwhp and runs 12.2s at 116mph with a slipping clutch. its getting a new one and a short throw shifter in a month and should be 11s easy

if you would like to know more about he LT5 look for the Sept. 2008 GM High Tech Mag. it has alot of details about that motor and they put it in a 3rd gen. Camaro.

11.1 compression ratio provided 375hp at 6,000 rpm, 405hp in the '93-'95 versions, and 370lbft at 4,800 rpm.

not bad for a "boat anchor"

I just got rid of my c4. Mekanic is correct with all his info. and boat anchor? sheesh.. LT5's are an absolute beast of an engine and sound is absolutely beautiful. those will spin 8k plus and last all day doing it. I will own another C4, but it will be the ZR1 next time.

My friends 95 zr1 is trapping 117 and is stock. They are just very hard to launch. Not really a drag friendly car.. lots to learn/get used to
