How many of you guys havethis problem with your headers/ORY setup? Mine beats on floor pretty much all the time. They're jet hot long tubes through a hooker Y, but I think its slowly getting better the longer its been on the car. Would subframe connectors or a strut tower brace help keep down the beating? In my mind I can picture it helping but not on paper.

my hooker did it too and eventually the ds y where it hit just bent in  i had subframes and the strut bar too. its a common area with aftermarket y's

Worn motor mounts?

It's beating it and clearancing itself... that's why it's getting better :D Hit something enough times and it starts to move.

Yes, I realize this, its already bent up from the last car it was on! :jest:

But damn, he said it would hardly ever hit on his car.

Maybe he had softer floor boards... they gave before the exhaust did :D

I tried 2 different y's one was a mufflex, can't remember the other. Neither fit very well the mufflex didn't fit at all. I think it was mis-boxed. I ended up making my own for both cars.

I don't think the strut tower brace or subframe connectors will make a difference, but I have both for sale, both brand new in another thread if you are interested...

I think they would definitely fix the problem.

(pssss.... what's my commission?)

Yeah, I don't see them fixing it... but a mod is a mod... ;)

Try just using a big ass breaker bar and slightly bending it away from the floor boards.
There is another guy having the same prob on his PS & TDs at ls1tech

I wonder if you could find out exactly where it hits, drop the y-pipe, and use a C-clamp to compress the tubing??? I know on mine we did that to gain some clearance. It really won't hurt flow any.

you need to look at a couple things. First, you need to see where it's hitting, and secondly, figure out if it's hitting because your old stock motor mounts are junk and allowing too much engine movement. Even new rubber mounts aren't great, old ones are terrible. Might consider upgrading to at least some poly mounts to keep everything from moving. If controlling movement doesn't keep it from banging around, just clearance it a bit where needed with a hammer or some other method as suggested.

I'm going to guess that most of your problem is stemming from the motor mounts. EDIT. or it could just be a crappy fitting Y-pipe

I'm curious, did you do this by putting a jack under the floor, or use a hammer - or what?
