So, I drove my woman's car for the first time tonight. It's an 07 Ford Fivehundered. It's a nice riding, MASSIVE family cruiser with tons of options. I drove home from Christmas dinner, and I have to say, driving a car with cvt (continually variably transmission) is really really weird. Acceleration is glass smooth, but I kept having a little moment where I thought it was slipping because i'm so used to normal autos and manual trans cars. Once I got it up to 60 and set the cruise, the rpm dropped again, the car was cruisin along at 60mph at 1600 rpm. Now I see how this big boat is getting 28mpg average. It's not a car I would buy, but its nice, Just waaay too tall and bulky for me lol.

The thing that surprised me the most was I passed a slow car on the highway, put the pedal to the metal, no jerky downshift, nothing, the rpms just rose up and the car accelerated.. ODD feeling lol

Anyone else drive a car that felt odd in the way it works?

My mom's new subaru legacy is the same way. Funny when you floor it how they basically just sit at high rpms and the car just goes.

haha i know exactly wut u mean. when i drive my old lady's car 2012 nissan altima im constantly lookin at the rpms expectin it to be at redline in 1st gear and its already crusin thru 3rd gear lol. it def takes some gettin used to. the only way u feel anything is when u let off the gas thinkin it needs 2 make a shift.
