Hello, I acquired a complete LS1 style rear for my car minus brakes. What would be easier to do. Remove the axles and backing plates and install my LT1 axles/backing plates and brakes? Or would it be less of a headache to just get some LS1 rear calipers, rotors, pads and e-brake cable (assuming the e-brake cables are not interchangeable since LT1 and LS1 e-brakes are different in design)? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

My 9" came out of an LS car... it was complete with LS brakes... we installed it the way it was, and got the cables for an LS car...

BLUEBOTTLEZ installed it for me, so he could tell you all the details.... but it was quick.

I am thinking it seems easier to just buy LS calipers, rotors, pads and e-brake cable. Probably a bit more costly though (since my LT rear brakes are good and re-usable). Decisions decisions..... >.>

Thanks for the input Larry!

If it were me, I'd just pop the axles and put the LT brakes on there. Then you don't have to mess with the ebrake cables or buying lots of new parts for it either. The only reason my car as rear LS brakes is because I bought the axle complete, only thing I needed was ebrake cables, and I got those from a friend lol

Agree with keeping the lt brakes. No use in spending money unless the brakes are worn out or damaged.

I would then have to use the LT1 axles correct? There should be no issues with them fitting into the ls1/torsen carrier correct?

The only difference between LT and LS axles is the length of the wheel studs, LS axles being slightly longer. Otherwise they fit, I ran my old LT axles in several LS rearends (that I broke), no issues.

I also thought the hub was bigger on lt series the ls series. Tried booting up some camaro rims and didn't fit.

Axle's are actually different sizes. See this post:

Thanks for the input guys! I ended up just buying all brand new brakes (front and rear) so I went ahead and got the LS1 style calipers, rotors and pads.

Sometimes paying extra, is just worth less headache. I feel ya!
