Is it worth it to build your own? My alt is not up to the task and I feel I may have to replace it soon so I thought about rebuiling it myself. I've messed with alts many moons ago while in Auto Mechanics but never actually rebuilt them. We just tore them down to see the components and how they work. Even the learning expirence would be cool. How bout it?! Worth it or not? :shiner:

I tore apart my alternator to polish the case and put it back together. I installed new brushes at the same time. Then the voltage regulator went bad on me, so I got a new one, took the guts out of it and put it in the polished case. It's a piece of cake, just keep everything in order and replace in the reverse order of the removal. I didn't replace the bearings, but that would not even be that difficult.

I don't. Sorry about that.
Tip: If I remember correctly I used a paperclip (unfolded) to hold the brushes in so that I could get them back in place. Other than that, it really is a mind over matter thing. You think it's going to be a bigger deal than it really is until you actually open it up and get to work.

Ok I'll try Google and see if I can't find anything there.
