Just bought a 94 z28 convertible with a bad fuel pump. Does anyone have experience with doing the trap door mod on a vert?

I've done the trap door on my 94 hardtop z there's actually a YouTube video on how to do it but I personally would do it the right way because there is a lot of cutting involved and if your not that confident it can end badly but if you really want hit up YouTube I found it on there how to do it. I used tin snips and a drill for this ordeal...plus if you do it the right way and your car is stock height you could throw in a plastic ls1 gas tank for a light rear...regardless its all up to you.

I've done the trap door on a hatchback. Would do it again 100 times. I was asking if anyone had done it on a convertible.

well i figured i would do some testing on the fuel pump to make sure it wasnt falsely condemned before i dug into it. it was. applied 12v to the fuel pump prime connector and it would start and run. while checking for power at the fuses i noticed there was no power at ANY ignition fuses (koe off). if i rolled the key on slowly towards the start position there is a sweet spot where the starter wouldnt engage but the ignition would come on. ignition switch is bad. easy fix :)

Location to cut the door is just about the same. You will get close to the area where the metal overlaps closer to the back seats.

Do it the right way and drop the tankscrew that noise, way too much work. I cut mine. I would never consider dropping the axle and tank to change a pump on a car that should have come with a cover to start with like every damn old honda did. Plus 9 times out of ten you have to pull it all back out when the level sender goes bad a month later.

I AGREE 100%
Oh and I've done the trap door on a convertible I OWN one. Top has to be up to access everything and you will need a 90degree head for a drill due to the clearance on the support for the top. Not hard at all and it is indeed the exact same location as a hard top.
