We have a 2003 Chrysler Town and Country min van. Recently its been problem after problem. Over the weekend I changed the A/C compressor after it locked up. An A/C comp, 2 expansion valves, 1 dryer, countless o-rings, 2 gallons of ac flush, and 3 days of work. I finally got it back together holding a vacuum and ready to charge. Needless to say the fans do not come on when the air conditioner is turned on. Odd. This is most likely the whole reason the compressor failed in the first place. That and an ungodly amount of love bugs.

I decide its the fan relay. $50 later, new relay installed. Same problem. I decide to let it idle and see if the primary cooling fan would come on. Waited about 15mins with no fans coming on, and the temp gauge never reaching the 1/2 way point. Take it for a spin with my scanner on it watching coolant temp. Hovers at 190-205 wile cruising, a/c off. I pull into a gas station, put it in park and rev it to 1500 and hold it. Watching temps creep up to 225, the fans kick on. Both fans. I'm stumped. I do not think that the engine should run that hot. Cant figure out why the fans do not come on when the ac is commanded to cool. Coolant temp sensor is working as far as I can tell. Info is scarce on the interwebs. I guess there's not a big community for Chrysler minivans lol

Anyone have any idears? :peace2:

Are you referring to the relay/fan control module mounted on the fan shroud or rad support? I've had COUNTLESS chrysler prod that had the same prob that turned out to be that. Most refer to that as cooling fan control module

Yep that's exactly it. I ended up changing it with no change to the problem. For some reason the parts store calls it a relay. Its clearly a PWM for controlling fan speed. If i jump the 2 heavy awg wires both fans run full bore. I tried changing the engne coolant temp sensor last night. No change either. I ended up jumping the fans again and filling the AC system to see if it worked. Works a ok :) now just to solve this fan issue. I leaning towards HVAC controls, a pressure switch, wiring harness or PCM. Looking like it might have to go to the dealer.

Dam! I know they've had harness/comp problems maybe thats what u got. Try starting it and with the a/c on give the big engine harness that heads around the bach side of the motor a few gd tugs and seeif that does anything. Also ck to see if it has a high and low speed relay in the fuse block in the engine compartment you may have one of those bad.

This may be a long shot but i know there's a reprogram procedure for the hvac controls. idk the exact procedure but google it and try it!! Usually all the lights on the controls will be flashing if it's in need of a reprogram and its nothing you need a scanner for.

I did a google search and came up with nothing.

I was going to call up the dealer but decided to try it one more time. I just fired the van up and turned on the A/C. As soon as I heard the A/C compressor turn on, the cooling fans followed. WTF. I absolutely hate intermittent problems. Its starting to sound like a wiring harness problem now. Any suggestions on what to look for now. I guess I will try tugging on the harness to see if the fans go out.
