Guys, I'm getting ready to drop my new motor in, and was curious if I should change to a tubular K-member?

The car will NOT be a track car. Not a daily driver either.

What would you do?

IF/when I get the money I will be putting one in and my car is a DD

I think its a great investment
1. for weight savings
2. structural rigidity
3. more clearance

The reduced weight is a big deal at the track, but the extra clearance
to reach in a do simple things like change spark plugs or change the oil filter is priceless IMHO.

If it doesn't fit into one of those two categories, what else is there for an LTX car?

Driving it to church on Sunday is about the only thing left.

My vote is yes. For all the reason's listed above and for one more reason...it looks really good!
Plugs, exhaust and all general access is much better. I did it mainly for wieght reduction and am not disapointed.

Then the question is, which one to go with? I've been wanting to do this for a while now. I've heard that they are not the best for the street, DD, etc. Something about the structural integrity of driving daily on the street. My car only see's about 1000 miles per year, I'm sure I'd be fine with one.

What one's do you all use that have them?

Your car almost had more street time than mine :)

My thoughts exactly.

Which one?

Just a heads up on the UMI K-members for the LT1

Factory LT1 k-member = 48.4 pounds
UMI LT1 Road Race K-member = 35.8 pounds
So, the LT1 RR K-member only reduces 12.6 pounds instead of claimed 22 pounds, which means the standard version should be more around 15.6 and not 25 pounds reduction with it weighing 3 pounds less than the RR.

great looking piece, very beefy.... obviously.

I went with the AJE Racing K-member and lower A-Arms and I've been very happy with the AJE items.

However, in the rear I have all Spohn items (T/A, Pan-Hard & Sway-Bar) and those items are also great.

For a car that is even remotely street driven, go with the UMI. It has a twin tube design where as the other companies only have a single tube. The takes away any fear of structural integrity failure. It is a very solid piece and I speak from experience.

Thatwas what I was thinking. I believe I am going to go with the UMI RR version. Looks stronger.

Thanks for your input!!!!

I got a really good deal from Shon.

Since I am a member of CamaroZ28.com, he gave me a board discount and then also shipped it for free. If you have an account on CZ28, pm him and he will get back to you pretty quick. If not, just give him a ring. Good guy to deal with.

eh, my car is the same way. it's not my daily driver but i have only ran it on the track once about 4 years ago. It's a weekend cruiser for the most part. i suppose in the summer it is more of a daily driver but then again i didn't really do much this summer other than going to cruises and what not, lol. when i was working last spring/early summer i didnt put a single mile on the T/A for work purposes.

The UMI 2325 and 2326 both look like really HD pieces. The road race version is supposedly only 3 pounds heavier, but adds about $100 to the price.

What would you all go with the regular version (2325) or RR version (2326)?

Would anyone be interested in trying to do a group purchase? Of course that would mean we'd have to get a vendor to do the group purchase. I'm just thinking out loud here....:D

I am definitely interested. Car is going up on a lift in the morning. So the sooner the better :D

my stock K member was 54 lbs, my PA racing is 22 lbs so it lost 32 lbs off the front of the car with the K member only, I plan to replace that one with a Spohn one tho, I just like steves parts and I have to support my local guys, there only about 10 miles from me.

I have had a BMR k-member for about 4 years now and I love it. Fit perfectly, and lost quite a bit of weigth.
