So here is my prob.. pump wont come on with the key in the on position or when you try and crank it.. when i apply 12v power to the fuel pump prime wire it kicks on.. my car is a 94 z28 6spd. im running a 96 obd2 harness in the car..(not sure if this is an issue or not)

my question is: If i use the hot wire kit and install a switch between the alternator and the relay will that bypass the key on for the stock harness? or am i wrong in my thinking?

Hymm, did you swap the ODB2 harness over. I personally do not like ODB2. Most consider converting to ODB1 an upgrade. Have you bypassed VATS? Are there any blown fuses?

the only difference according to SHBOX between the obd1 and obd2 harness is the injector power feed #10 wire which i took care of by repining it.. i am running an obd1 pcm but my stock harness was too messed up and i got a great deal on this one.. so i know that all of those connections are good. I believe the break is somewhere in the interior harness of the car.. Just trying to narrow down where it is.. would like to just bypass the whole thing but if i can get it to work i would be happy.. The VATS i believe is ok not sure if its bypassed or not but the security light goes off within two seconds of turning the key so it def. clears.. I have not found any blown fuses and i did replace the fuel pump relay

Ive head some odd things going on with VATS lately. With your resistor key in the ignition try to test for resistance below the column. The problem is usually VATS and almost always found in lock. I would check and see if your key is being contacted.

ok so to update the situation when i pull out the fuel pump relay and used my multi meter when the key is turned the 12v in gets 12v.. when i put the multimeter in the pink and yellow wire slots the pump kicks on.. Does this mean that the problem is at the ignition switch? also i noticed that when i jumped those two wires that the pump reads 5v. is that normal?

Have you tried checking if your resistor key if working right? I want to rule out VATS before I dig into my pile of service manuals to read the schematics. If your relay is seeing 12v+ on one of the heavy gauge wires. Then power is getting to it. Using a test light check the 2 smaller gauge wires for both ground and 12v+ with the ignition on ( I cannot remember if it uses 12v+ or 12v- to engage the relay). Remember the pump only primes for about 5 seconds. So you need to check quickly.

Please check/bypass VATS! VATS controls power to the fuel pump and ignition system.

hmm ill have to dig into that tomorrow.. is there a possibility that the vats is stopping the fuel pump from coming on but still letting the car crank?

Yes. Its part of the anti theft system. I worked on a 96 that would crank and start and every now and then. Eventually stopped running. Found no injector pules but fuel pump and starter still worked. Normally VATS would not allow the fuel pump to run or prime, no starter cranking, and no injector pulse. But this car would prime and crank. Spent alot of time researching and trouble shooting. Eventually came down to changing the $900 body control module do the VATS bypass resistor mod. Turns out it was the $0.10 resistor need to bypass vats.

so i need to measure the resistance of the key and then measure the resistance at the plug correct? then solder in the right impediance resistor

ok so my key reads 2.36 ohms and when i put it in the ign. it reads the same at the connector at the base of the colum.. Does that mean that vats is ok? I noticed i am not getting power to the #5 fuse inside the car.. I believe that it is the fuse that powers the relay from the pcm.. what could that mean

That sounds too low. Read through this. http://shbox.com/1/pass_key.html

I'm not all that familiar with f bodies and don't have a manual with me. What does you owners manual say that fuse is for? The fuse is not blown?
