I was in some what of a pickle, the TA needed new long tubes and I was thinking about building an F1A fed 383. I began to price parts, what would have to change, blah blah, Fastbirds a bully, blah blah. :) Well ended up picking up a complete new in box PTK Gen II kit, ceramic coated for about what I was budgeting for the custom Y and Kooks 1 7/8 set up. So I think between just what the bracket, tensioner, new ATI hub and timing cover I can easily pay for the turbo, waste gate and blow off valve. Thats not including the over $3K that of F1A would have cost me. I would have had to do an intercooler and fuel system any way, so thats not to bad. In the end I still think this set up will come out atleast $2K cheaper or so. Going to build a 383, Lunati Sledge Hammer Crank, Forged 6" H beam rods and Diamond Pistons, -31cc. That should put me in the bottom 9.0-2 far as CR, I have a set of Dart Pro-1 LTX 200CC heads that flow 288/212CFM, going to reuse them for sure. I ready one of Engineermikes threads, and he said his 383 ran the best with a 224.236.114 Comp Blower Cam, figure that should drive nice in a 383, not going to go nuts and do a SR, I want this thing to be reliable and fun to drive. On the turbo, a 78mm should work well correct? The car has an EFI 24X set up on it already, Built T56, Street Twin, Spohn Extreme Duty DS and a Strange 12 Bolt, plus a ton of suspension. Going to also do a tubular K to make it nicer to work on, stock LT1 K sucks with an NA car. With that novel wrote, I want some input, you guys think what I'm thinking will be a good street set up. I "want" the following:

Semi-trouble free, thats why I am spacing the parts out, not skimping, doing it right once and leaving it be.

I want to run on Pump 93, meth maybe?

What could a set up like this make on pump, I saw engineermike trapped bottom 140s on 17# with a 76, Jose ran over 150MPH with a 355, 88mm at 24#?

Fuel system, dual walbro, large injectors, 94+ rails and a Aeromotive regulator

My best buddy Jon94Z says he wants to be able to hear the turbo whistle through the Borla at idle or he's going to beat me up.

BIG thing, I dont want the car to catch on fire and kill me.

Yea, given the car already has the drivetrain, suspension and 24x swap it makes sense to build it over buying some thing else. Should be a fun car when its all done.

Sounds like a plan. Can't think of anything you missed or should add. Not dying a hot, terrible, fiery death is always good.

maybe add a small fire extinguisher if your really that worried :) anyways, i had my eye on that ptk kit over on cz28.com.... i wanted it so bad but couldnt sell my other motor in time neil. im planning about the same build, but just cant bring myself to buy the turbo parts, since that would commit me to going forced induction :) anyways it looks like you got it all covered. only thing i would add is the tubular k member that i have for sale in the f/s section here :) good luck with the build, id love to follow along on a build thread btw!

I most likley will go with the Spohn, just dont need that part quite yet. I'm also some what undecided on the intercooler, looking at going liquid to air maybe? I just want cut up the nose on the car

thats the only thing holding me back from doing the turbo, i dont know what to do with the nose of my car, and its a formula so its a bit different

While it wont be as efficient, you can always wire up fans on the intercooler, and in even more of an attempt not to cut it up you can add an air dam underneath to direct air up into it like the radiator has.

Just make sure that the air dam is shorter than the radiator's so you don't block the airs path from also making it to that.

Precision T76GTS is the best T4 framed street turbos you can buy. I would get that, or a Turbonetics TC78 is also a good option if you are on a budget.

Kit came today, brought it over to Tiago to look at, plug access looks a bit scary/nitemare, nice kit though, but they all look nice till you try and install them I suppose. We are going with a 78mm, so I guess the TC78 is what I am going to buy. Also leaning towards going to an air to air to keep things simple.

I love turbos and you should just wear a red fire suit every time you drive your car, Ricky Bobby style.
