Well it looks like my days of stock heads are done (le3) , found that the deck of the heads where to thin after all the milling and failed on 3 chambers, wasnt the head gaskets like i was hoping, Time for some new heads, Whats the best option out the afr 227 lt4 55cc??So far thats looking like the best option i see, anyone else have a better option?

Not sure what your build looks like but the 227's require a monster cam not to mention CI to keep port volume up. These heads are usually saved for the most radical of builds.

comb was a .670 lift solid roller,385ci,le3, 12.1cr, we run the afr 227 on 383 sbc near same comb as my lt1 with good results, just wasnt sure if there was a better 23degree lt1 head out yet.

yes me to nothing is set in stone yet but thats the plan, bottom end only has a hand full of passes on it so replace the heads and go, I was very close to selling the bottom end and going with a ls engine but i think ill hold off for now....

If you can spend the extra $500 do it.

That would be an epic fail.
Find a set of AFR215 RR's have them converted and never look back.;)
Doesn't AFR make a set of 235's? Just convert them(like someone else on here) and they should work nicely :)

They do make the 235's that are hands down the best 23* head out there. But..................I can't tell you how much work it took to make them work on my 4.030 bore. :puke: . My valves are shrouded if that tells you anything. I would love to have a Bowtie race shop block with a 4.125 bore so I can un-shroud the valves on these heads. The 235's are made for a 4.125 or larger bore engine. I had to get a custom Cometic gaskets made for these heads.
It is better to stick with the 227's for our limited bore size. Or like Chris said find the old style RR215's

RPM range, and valve lift must be determined in order to really select the best head.

There is a pair of AFR 215 RR's forsale on YellowBullet Brand new 1800.00. Thats a killer price I may get them and put my other engine back together with them.:secret:

All pro RR245
The All Pro RR245 is a great head for a large bore smallblock it comes with a 2.180 intake valve.Personally it dont think that you can utiliize all the potential of that head on an LT1.

But its a bad ass 23 deg head :D
If I was doing a 38-390 ish LT1 I would go with AFR 227 if I was going with an out of the box head. Might have to get some offset rockers unless you dont mind running the rockers pigeon toe'd.

Well after talking to Diamond about my pistons looks like the biggest valve i can go with is a 2.08intake so im going with the afr 210cc Comp. Eliminator cylinder heads. Will see how well it runs in the spring!!
