Ok so ive been considering upgrading to an ls2 gto lately particularly a brazen orange 06 m6. But if i get the gto i will get rid of my ws6 and i dont know if i really want to do that. I will give you the run down of my car and why ive been considering upgrading.
The Good:
-96 WS6
-M6
-Ram Air
-Ttops
-Black on black
-TTIIs
-lowered
-full exhaust
-dark window tint
-everything works
-hypertech programmer
-3.73 gears
-hardly see any lt1 birds in my area anyways and i know of 2 ws6s around here and they are about an hour apart and im in the middle. one is black and one is red. both are a4s and the red one i know is a 97. the black i only seen passing.

The bad:
-drivers side ttop leaks cause owner before me didnt know how to put them in correctly
-drivers side headlight motor grinds cause some douchebag decided to step on the headlight (didnt even know anybody there i was in tuscaloosa working on a job)
-same incident bent the headlight bucket
-passengers side grinds now cause strain from drivers side broke it
-slow window motors
-dash pad cracked this past january from temp changes i guess
-not really bad but could use a paint job (tornado came through and through alot of debris at it and chipped and scratched it, lucky it didnt take it with it though)
-black on taillights is coming loose
-needs shocks/struts (the passenger rear has gotten soft lately and it bottoms out easy)

The car isnt really that bad and i honestly love having it but i dont really know what i want more. The sad part is i actually beat an 04 ls1 gto on the interstate by around 4 or 5 cars and ive heard the ls2s are about as fast as ls1 fbodies. i have taken a stock ls1 and i have stayed door to door with a modded ls1 ss m6 and a modded ls1 ws6 a4. So i dont really want to downgrade in performance that much.

Here is a pic of the ws6.

I've driven a few before.. theyre nice.

What is driving you towards an 05/06 GTO?

In the end, its up to you. Go out and drive one. Dont sell your car before doing so.

You driven one yet? Hell of a driver, but way too soft and "cruiser" feel. If that's what you're looking for, then go for it. If you want to keep a sports/muscle car type of feel, don't even think about it.

Awesome interior, extremely comfortable, but again, it just ain't the same. LS2 though......

If you're just looking to try something new, I'd consider the LS1 F-bodies too.. I've been in your shoes before. You can get a clean one cheap. I bought mine for $11,500 with 43K on the clock. A 05/06 GTO is prob going to run you at least $15K with average/somewhat higher milage.

It never hurts to switch it up either. I love mine. Its a different feel than my LT1 Formula. My Formula felt more powerful, but my SS is quicker.

I'll owner another LT1 someday... But for now, I'm happy with my Camaro.

Well its probally the whole not having weak window motors which is a problem with fbodies plus no ttops to leak and no headlight motors to get messed up. But then again i could probally fix the problems cheaper than getting a new car. Plus they are bigger but im just worried if i was to testdrive one i would like it at first but then regret it soon after. Its like the formy in my sig. It was an pretty built car and i had no problem wasting ls1s or much of anything else for that matter i mean of course there were a few cars faster im not saying it was the fastest on the road lol but after the fire and now i have the ws6 and i guess its kinda a letdown performance wise compared to my formula and im wanting to get something faster. Although i dunno if they are faster lol.

My dad has a 04 black/red m6. Its lowered on 18s and it looks really good but i havent really driven it much. I do like the sportier handling and ride.

If imma get a ls1 it would definetly be a black/black 98 ws6 m6 and i wouldnt sell mine i would build the 98 to match and have the first year lt1 ws6 and the first year ls1 ws6. That would be sweet but talking my wife into it would be quite difficult im sure lol.

BTW how do you quote more than one post at time?

Once again, If you're just looking to "go fast"... There are cheaper options. You could build your WS6 or buy a LS1 F-body and go faster cheaper. With the extra money you'd spend on getting a GTO, you could fix everything with yours and make it run 10's with the difference in price between the two, rather than having a stock GTO.

HOWEVER, if theres something else that makes you want one (other than the fact that theyre faster stock), take everything I said away and figure it out. Whether its the interior, exterior.. Engine.. Just figure out why you want it and think of the pros and cons. Create a list and think it over...

GTO's are heavy.. A friend has an 06 with a cam and STS kit. It should be high 10's this year. Bad ass car..

You can buy a clean lower milage 98 WS6 for under $10K. You could prob. manage to find a clean one for around $8K...

I always here this a lot.

GTO's are heavy

If you get a gto, will you have/want a car payment? I assume the ws6 is paid for. IMO You can make the ws6 faster, for cheaper like said before. no payment = mod money, fix the little things and add some upgrades and you'll fall in love again. Its your call both are nice, but I would take the ws6. Nothing like the clean, sharp look of the lt1 ws6...and you also said there isnt many in your area, that would be another reason for me to keep it.

Im now considering a 396 LT1 build for this car. Mainly for the bragging rights. Im not gonna lie lol not everyone can claim those cubes and im sure it would be cheaper than the alternatives. Only thing for certain now is a strange s60 rear, 396 lt1, and a gm847 cam. I love the sound of that cam plus from what ive read it makes big numbers also. If im gonna build i want people to fear it lol.

Haha it works lol. At one point i was considering finding a 96 formula ws6 or cloning one lol to make a matching set of cars but lately ive been really getting back into the ws6 i just wanted to get some other opinions before i decided on it or not. What really go me kinda back into mine is there is a guy on here that was selling one last year identical to mine without the little problems lol but i was searching trans am pics and i saw his car and thats actually how i found this site. After seeing his and the comments he had on it it made me realize just how good looking it really is. I think i was down on it cause of all the stuff thats happened to it since ive gotten it. But im glad i asked this because it has actually made me appreciate it more lol.

You are right the ws6 is paid for. Actually i dont have but 550 bucks in it the way it sits. When my formula burnt me and my wife had just gotten married and her grandpa gave her a 03 envoy. Well the tires started getting bare and my stepmom asked what it would take to get the envoy. I said the ws6 jokingly since i had been after the car for 6 years. She said that would leave my wife without a car so they traded us the ws6 and a 98 explorer (i know its a ford) with a brand new motor, tires, brakes, etc( i know gotta fix everything on a ford lol) and they paid to have them swapped over and paid 4 months insurance. All i have in the ws6 is new tires and an oil change lol. I guess i was just down cause she didnt take care of it and now ive gotta make up for it. When i got it it hadnt been driven in almost a year (dryrotted the tires hence the new ones) and there was milk from her son in the backseat dried into the leather. I just wish it was as nice as it was when my dad got it. He let her drive it and she just ruined it basically. We painted it and added purple pearl and she never washed it, the inside was full of junk, the rear plastic in the hatch area is messed up cause she cut it up to add subs, i mean she took a nice car and to me ruined it.

I believe theyre about 400lbs heavier than f-bodies.
