View Full Version : 95 trans am starting issue

I have a issue starting my car. today i took the trans out of the car to replace the clutch and fix a rear main leak and after words my car would not start. the trans is still out of the car! the ecm might have gotten wet too. im not sure i went to the parts store to get the new clutch and it raind. so im not sure if its a VATS related issue or not. Also if i jump it off at the starter and it will start but will die in like 2 seconds. Im not sure if the trans out of the car will cause it not to run but i really dobut it!

Are you getting a security light on the dash? I had a key that was wearing to much and the security lite started comming on intermitently, then finally stayed on and the car would no longer start.... new key, no prob... not that that had ANYTHING to do with your issue, I just went off on a tangent trying to say that when I had VATS issues the SECURITY lite came on....

well popo. I would tell you if i could tell if my light was on.. but the is a problem with that also..lol.. the bulb for the security light is burnt out so it dont light up at all!
I thought to myself also it was a vats issue!

is there any way i can test the vats system. or what? so i know before i spend the money!

we i replaced the bulb to see if my secruity light was on. we it is. but it is flashing so im sure that is why the car will not crank over. i even tried to jump the starter and nonthing. what do i have to do to get the damn car to start and run. thanks!

You need to get rid of VATS, yours is finally giving you that trouble. IIRC, the flashing security light means VATS is keeping EVERYTHING from running.

It can be tuned out even with a mail order tune (disabled is a better word).

How did you get rid of it? My car had a bad batt. and now with the new one, it has a solid security light on. The dash lights up and I here the pump going, but no starter. When I first put the batt in it fired up. Then I was going to take a ride and tried to start it again and no starter. WTF. Is there a easy fix. I did some searches but not sure what to do. I know its not the key, One is new and worked before. The other key is old, allways worked before. My light will go off after a while, but i put the key in and it comes back on.

this is a easy fix. As long as you can strip wires, You can fix this. I just took a OHM meter and got the resistence of the key mine was a 1470 ohms (1.47) i got with the meter. or what you can do is have a lock smith or a place that can make them keys get the code of the key. Like my key was a 6 so i used shbox.com and got ohms of there, then i went to radieoshak and got a few resistors to make the ohms of the key puts out. When you do this there is a ORANGE WIRE THAT YOU NEED TO STRIP AND THERE IS 2 WIRES IN SIDE OF THAT THAT YOU NEED TO STRIP SOLDER THE RESISTORS TO THEM WIRES. And there you go... Just get all the OHMs set right and its done. works like a charm!

I seen that you posted that your light was flashing. That video also had a flashing light. My light stays on for 3 mins or so and shuts off. When I put the key in to start it, it has no starter function. I will try the radio shack fix but what if its the the tdm/bcm unit causing my problem?

that method i told you about should stop that. but i dont know for sure.
