Well my mechanic called me last night and finally got the engine/turbo in the car, that was the good news, Of course there is always the bad, steering shaft is hitting dead nuts on the #5 primary and the piping that goes under the oil pan is hitting hard on the Tubular K member!! Now the Shoot out is looking dim for me...

What kit do you have Moe?
Call up Stefs and have them make you a pan for the setup.

Must be the GEN 2 kit, best to check those things outside the car.

The k-member fix should be easy. Grind off the powdercoating and weld on a new piece, then cut out the part that is rubbing. Same deal with the header pipe. Fab something up.

The problem with the headder pipe is that there in only around 4-5 inches to work with, I thought the same, Just cut the tube and re-route it but it is so tight, it would be impossible to get a weld completely around the pipe, I ordered some short headders for Rat Rods, would of worked great except that the collector was up against the block keeping the flange away from the heads around 1 inch...Dam I'm so Pissed...Does anyone know if there is a smaller rag joint I can use? or a kit that moves the rag joint? Thanks for everyones input..

Is the rag joint the joint on the steering shaft? I never understood the "rag-joint" elimination and that link you posted confuses me even more.

It's the joint on the steering shaft that has a piece of rubber or sometimes composite material sandwiched between some metal tabs. Kinda a rubber "doughnut" to give the steering shaft some flex and also dampen vibration that could come up it.
I think my Flaming River kit on the Blue Beast got rid of it and has a metal u-joint, but I'd have to check. My memory ain't what it used to be.
Oops, forgot to post what I originally intended. Sorry to hear this Moe. Good luck with it and I hope you get it resolved in time for the car to make the event.

Well it turns out that its not the rag joint that's hitting the headder, its the u-joint, but it really doesn't look that bad, I told the mech to use a BMFH, Dent the headder in and it should clear, I have no choice at this time if I want to make the shoot out. Actuall the Hot Tubes are a little more compicated, They have to be cut, re-positioned and re-welded, I have Charles looking into this and he is a whiz at welding so I am confident he will fine a fix, But still time is runnig out!

hey MOE, instead of just smacking the header to dent it... I like to use a torch and make it red hot then with a large pair of plyers I squeeze a large socket into the side I need dented. Keeps the dent looking much smoother imho.

This also reduces the chances of cracking the metal and makes it more pliable to dent in

Sorry to hear it Moe and I kinda feel your pain. It's been one issue after the other for the last 2 months for me too and it's stupid little crap too. I hope Clark and Charles can get you up and running soon. See you this weekend.

Yea I agree, It does make it look a lot better, I will give it a try, I dont know, The mech has been draggin his ass, will be out of town next weekend so basically he has two weeks to get the motor completely installed, fix the headder/K-Member problems, fiinish the wiring harness/fuel system/ exhaust system/ put the new guages and interior back in.....Man I just dont think he can do it. I'm pissed!!

Well time is ticking and I am giving up, I Know the mech wont make it, This is the second dam time I will not have my car at the shoot out, It has been sitting since about 6 months before the first race. This is what I know of thats left to be done, Might be more.
Engine still not completely in the car:
Headder and Hot pipe clearance still not fixed.
Fuel system needs to finished up, Lines fabricated.
Turbo oil feed and drain lines fabbed up and installed.
New guages installed.
Interior put back in.
Intercooler lower brackets fabbed and installed.
Install Intercooler.
Needs exhaust system.
New Fan installed( See if it even fits behind the radiator).
Get to the Dyno and Tune.
I'm so pissed, I threw a lot of money at this project specifically for the shoot out and I know there is no way...
