That was August last year. Purple car is still on those jackstands, Vette is missing, and it's a bit more organized, but still the same. Three car 33 wide x 24 deep. I'll try to get some more pics one of these days.

Ever since the wreck, the truck has been buried in this mess. Made it very difficult to work on. The only reason there is open space... this was 30min after moving the truck out.

My new garage is a 30x40 foot pole building. It has recently been completed, though i still have to add the "finishing touches". THe HVAC will go in soon. I am currently storing my 56 chevy project in there as well as a few arcade machine projects. I will have a 1993 Indy Pace Car in there this winter with my car as well. Super easy. The hardest part was actually getting it off of the trailer. They put it on there with a forklift, but once you get it home you are on your own. My dad and I we able to install it in a little over 3 hours. We could have probably done it faster but it was like 20 degrees outside and the heater in the garage was having a hard time keeping it warm.

is there a lift that will fit in a normal heigh garage, and will pull the car up like 4 feet?

Most lifts will fit a normal garage. Problem is that with a 4' lift height, you're going to need a higher than normal ceiling. You might get away with a 10' ceiling if the car you're trying to lift is a Vette or F-Body, but a 12' would be better.

Have you thought about a quiklift?

Nope, not worried about bolting it down at all. In fact, they really didn't recommend it. The 4 post lift's like this are portable so you can actually put casters on the legs, lower the rails and it lifts the feet off the ground so you can roll it around. Now a two post lift, absolutely they need to be bolted down.

The epoxy was not a fun job. Make sure you wait twice as long as the instructions say before driving anything on it. Ask me how I know.

tehres 2 types, there are the 1 stage (epoxy 2 part)... and theres 2 stage 2 part epoxy base, then a 2 part urethane top coat usually a shade lighter than the bottom coat) my dad and i do these floors on occasion. they always turn out great no matter which you use but the epoxy/urethane 2 stage usually lasts a little longet and is tougher. urethane is harder but is easier to ship, epoxy is softer and is easier to scrape up so it all depends what you use it for. but when you do the 2 together they mix the 2 into one tough floor coating. BUT mind you, you CANT go back later and do an urethane top coat, you can ONLY do this while the epoxy is cured to the touch, you usually have a 30 day window to urethane top coat it. if yall have any questions about the floor coatings just ask :)

I'm using the baer (home depot) 1 part epoxy...its more for the wet look vs the flat look plus it helps with the hot tire marks too. I've let my car sit for over 8hrs and the tires were still hot enough to leave a mark.

What did you use? 1 or 2 part epoxy?

Mean seems to know more about this than myself...I used 1 part epoxy the first time I did it. It held up pretty good for a couple of years and then started to chip in spots and then became harder to get dirt up off it...This is a urethane top as Mean said and hopefully this will make it harder and also shinnier as well.

Here is a poor shot from before I started to redo everything. You can kind of see where the paint was lifting in the high traffic area since we use our garage a lot to go into the house...I figured I would try this and see if it helps at all...still saved quite a bit over something like "you-coat-it" but I'll see if it last as long...I would go another route if we planed on staying in the house for more than a couple more years.

You have everything out right now and it wouldn't take too long to do and like Mean said it will hold up longer than without.

MeanGreen94Z
10-28-2008, 10:01 PM
just be sure the urethane is compliant with the type epoxy you used or else it will lift the epoxy lol. and thats a MESS! the whole point to epoxy if you do it right IS to penetrate and be strong so it resists chips and wears up not peels up and chips off. fly me out there and let me do it ;) all you have to do is build me a motor and DOUBLE check that your still in the "window" that you can top coat it. or else it will lift.

No sealer....home is brand new.

I pressure washed it, acid washed it with muratic acid, then rinsed and pressure washed about 6 more times. Then let dry for two weeks before I painted on the epoxy.

sweet. always, if the concrete is sealed, Acid etch it. if it was new then your golden and it should last ATLEAST 5 years with high traffic. 10 years light use and probably 20 in the no traffic. i always use ICI or Gliden floor coatings but we charge on up there in price, i usually pocket 2500 per floor when we do larger garages. BUT we have great luck with their product and they last... i can speak for others. with epoxy as well as other paints... you get what you pay for.

Sweet! Thanks for the info guys! If it lasts 5-10 years I will be happy.

Wish I had spent the money on a 3rd car garage with a nice high ceiling for a lift.
$8000 seemed like a lot to add to the cost of building the house at the time .... :shiner: :embarassed:
Oh well ... next time ....

I used the 2 part epoxy on mine and it has held up very well through the summer. If anything I was worried about the hot tires after driving in the summer. No chips or peels yet. We will have to wait and see how the salt effects it this winter....fingers crossed. If nothing else I have an extra gallon mixed of the same color.

I have a habit of putting stuff back when I am working. like if I am using the 3/8 soccket, I put it back, BUT I put it upside down so I can easily grab it to continue work when I need it again.

But I think I am borderline OCD, hahaha

Been thinking of getting one of these. http://maxjaxusa.com/ small and works. Id like a back yard buddy but its just to much room in my small garage.
heres my mess of a garage. All the kids toys finally got moved to the play house out in the back yard (a 6ft by 6ft L shaped club house. tall enough to walk in. Normal door and windows. so the garage is ALL for the camaro now). Where the tv is sitting is getting made into a toll chest area. behind where the car is parts are cabinetry , etc. Full size closet to the right. both sides of the dead zone as I call it. (where the usless space on each side of garage door. Is All shelfing.

Ah hell, here's a quickie of my 3 car garage. 05' Xtreme, The SRZ, The Z06 and my custom 04' Yamaha Warrior w/ a 280 rear which isn't shown. :D Have to get a better pick tomorrow. Normally the truck is outside as the wifes Audi is parked where the truck sits. Out of town, you lose your spot. :)

Thanks! Ain't that the truth?! LOL Man that sucker was like a coffin! I hated it in the winter too but at least she was covered. I love my current garage as it's got climate control. :D It was one of the MAIN reasons we bought it. Now I'm a constant 72 degrees no matter the time of yr.

I don't have a garage of my own, not even off street parking, but my parents let me use theirs, he the t/a sits for the long cold winter. I'm slowly cleaning it up so I can work with more space. It's not an ideal space, but its better than being out in the cold, it is heated so that is a big plus.

Don't really have any good ones of the garage. It is just your normal 3 car. It does have 11' tall though so that is a plus for the lift next year. It is half finished, except where the maro has been sitting on jack stands for the last 3-4 years. I have added 14 4' lights and 14 outlets. Once the maro is off the stands it will be completely finished.

The other shop/garage is to much of a mess to show.
