View Full Version : What to do AFTER removing egr/air?

I got the LPP race headers for my 1995 Z28, so I'll be removing the AIR and EGR systems off the car since they will be no longer needed. I know how to get them off and plug up the vaccume lines and delete them basically (due to my handy service manual :D) but my question is what to do with the electrical connections and everything after its all out? Is there something I can plug in to the unplugged connectors that can like simulate to the PCM that it is still there of just take this shit out and leave it how it is? I don't want to screw everything up and have dangling wires or is that just the way it has to be? Oh yeah and is there anything else I should delete other than AIR and EGR with the race headers? Thanks.

Tune all that stuff out and the pcm doesnt know its there anymore, I just taped my plugs up

What if I cut some connectors out of a junkyard car so I can plug into the empty connectors so they don't corrode then? I'm gonna use tunercats software to calibrate the speedo after I switch gear ratios can I do it with that?

It's only like 10 bucks to get the block off plates

I already have them, its more about the wores and what to do with them/tune out the code so SES isn't lit up...

I wouldent worry too much about the spare wires/connections...

But if you really want to do something, either tape them up with electrical tape to cover them...OR do what you said about going to the junkyard and clipping some connectors. Make sure you tape them up either way afterwards.

Getting rid of the codes is simple, they can be tuned out as described above.

I just taped up my loose connectors and hid them. I also have a mail order tune to delete the codes.

I made my own block off plate and left the EGR pump on. I finally removed the AIR pump completely and all the tubes. I also went on ebay and got some real block off plates. It'll really clean things up a bit!

FYI - if you are worried about the connectors getting dirty, you can find a fast drying spray made just for cleaning electrical connectors and pigtails like that. I just used it when replaced my Dad's Silverado's ABS speed sensors. The connectors were loose for several months and the spray really cleaned them up good.

Thanks guys I'm just going to do the pigtail and tape the connectors thing, remove the codes with the tunercats and block off the intake. What else do I have to block off though isnt it just the EGR port that I have to block off and the vaccume line that goes to it or am I missing something else?

When you remove the air line, there is a bracket on the back side top of the intake. the bracket stays on the air line so you will have a open hole on the intake if not covered. Ive heard of some people using egr simulators for the back two. I think Camaro girl did that to her car on here.

I would just go with block off plates and a tune

dumb question, how much of a gain though? Anyone have before after results?

From deleting AIR/EGR? Performance wise, nothing. It's typically a weight savings/clean up the engine bay mod done in conjunction with a header swap.

EGR adds exhaust gas back into the intake and helps to decrease emissions (NOx)
AIR pump is used to heat up the catalytic converter by pumping air into the exhaust manifolds

I deleted both when going to long tube headers.

Hey another question, the block offs came with no gaskets for them. What should I use for a gasket? Same intake manifold gasket maker? I was thinking that wouldn't be a goot idea for the EGR port. Should I get some new EGR gaskets from chevy and use those?

Either way would work, I used RTV on the back of the plate on the last bunch I did. Worked fine, still leak free years later.

Although, actually using a new gasket would be/look very clean. Maybe a bit less messy also.

black RTV here

I'll probably just sandwich some replacement gaskets from the dealer down the st between the intake and the block offs. That should do it.
