Asking this for my father.

What brand of wheel bearings should he get, Timkens, or United?
(For 95 Lincoln Continental)

Shouldnt matter. They are both proly purchased from the same manufacture and rebranded with the other companys label. My 2 Cents. Just get which ever is cheaper.

ive been trained by Timken and they are without a doubt better in every way for oem replacement

We use timken bearings whenever we do front end work, or strange drag brake installs

The Beginning
Henry Timken, a St. Louis carriage maker, recognized that heavy freight wagons had a hard time making sharp turns. To solve the problem, he applied a tapered roller bearing design that could handle both radial (weight) and thrust (cornering force) loads. There were several customer benefits. First, the application ran more smoothly, reducing repair and replacement costs. In some cases, the bearings improved wagon performance so much that fewer mules were required to pull them. Finally, better cornering meant less chance of losing a load of goods. Always focused on customer benefit, Henry quickly realized that the tapered roller bearing could improve product performance in many other applications as well. He and his sons, H.H. and William Timken, quickly founded The Timken Roller Bearing and Axle Company and began building the business into what it is today.

I use them on all my car restorations and used them a lot in my idustrial equipment design and construction days. That being said, the car you are putting them is getting old and may be nearing the end of it's useful life. Dont throw money at a car that you may not keep much longer. Generic NAPA bearing will do fine for a few more years of use.

With a house full of people without a job, anything will work where getting a different car is beyond reach..

Besides, your car is older than his. ;) But lets not go in a GM vs Ford.

well if youre short on funds just get whatever is cheaper.im not biased,i just know the facts.Timken out performs everything else

I just don't see what FACT makes it stronger or better. I, we're not fond of "it just is".. We need to know why.

because they are made from "secret" metal alloys only found on Pluto.

I don't need a book of facts, just 1 or 2 that backup the opinion. If it's "i tried both and timken lasted longer or seemed better", that works, but the other post seemed more like advertising.

Timken hub bearing assemblies hold bearing settings more consistently,they reduce rotor runout and improve braking performance.Timken integrates the raceway with the hub to increase axle stiffness,this also eliminates the discrete race variables between the bearing and hub,providing a closer preload setting range.Integrating the raceway also reduces the weight by narrowing the overall package and reducing radial section thickness which improves maneuverability of the vehicle and improves fuel efficiency.

I can keep going on and on,and no matter what its gonna sound like an advertisement

all i do know that is the bearings used on a roll briquetter has to withstand 50+ tons of pressure and they were Timkin. I stand by my metal from Pluto statement as well.

That one don't sound like an ad this time. ;) Last one looked like a copy and paste from an advertisement brochure.
