I have a 96 formula. MY fans will not come one the right way. I have replaced the sensors 1 in the water pump and the other in the head. The one in the head i did get for a older sbc due to the connector was junk and could not find the right one to fit the sensor.
well the fans will come on at 260 according to the gauge in the car. which has aways been correct. since i put the motor back in the car after rebuilding it. it started this again. al tho i have had this problem before. But i need to fix it the right way. but when i put my snap on scanner on it. the coolent is only reading at 235 when the fan kicks in. and stops at 215 which i thought was normal temps. But when they do kick in at them temps while the gauge in the car is saying its at 250-260.. which i think that its correct due to when it says that. the coolent is boiling out of the over flow. so the first thing that i replaced was the sensor in the water pump. But that did the same thing, But when i disconect the sensor plug. The fans come on when i start the car. and will run till i shut it down. i need to get this car running.
i know its not the relays cuz i can turn them on with the scanner ( i can turn on the relays through the scanner under a test mode)
I tested the relays and they are good, wires are good and all them are good.
worse comes to worse i would liek to just have them run with the igniton.
I just dont under stand why i would be getting different readings in temps.why the ecm is turning them on so late.

well, i have had my fair share of fan issues. i'll tell you the easiest way to fix this would be to straight up hardwire the fans to a switch and control them manually... but be careful on what you tap into for a 12v source if you need one... I tapped into the cigarette lighter and that and the horn are on the same fuse. switch stopped working... examined the wiring and it was melted where I had tapped into the lighter. now the lighter fuse blows any time i use the horn.

im sure i can find a 12volt to put it too.. i tryed the hot wire it to the green and blue wires on the right side of the car. And it would not work the fans. Some one told me that you cant do it on a 96-97 yrs.

matt said he had a simular problem changed all 3 sensors from advance and hasnt had a problem. on a side note the factory gauge is always off not dead on correct what so ever IMO. The u have a sbc sensor that could be giving the gauge a diffrent reading. So change all 3 an hope for the best.
